Re: Suggestion: PCA ID
Magandang idea 'to! Personally, here's what I think:
-You become a full fledged member of PCA by meeting the following requirements:
--Member of PCA Forums and has at least 50 posts
--Able to solve the Rubik's cube
-If you want an ID, you send in your picture to a staff, and have it made.
-You pay a certain amount for processing fees and then mailing fees, or you can get it in by meeting up
Kahit hindi naman official, parang to show lang that you're part of a big group.

Re: Suggestion: PCA ID
personally this is what i think about this.
No offense but, i don't like the idea. you don't need a proof that you are a speedcuber. it's your desire to go faster and break your own barrier. that's the heart of a speedcuber. it's your bond with other fellow cubers, the will to help and compete all at the same time. the cebuano cubers don't post here frequently but they are the roots of speedcubing in the philippines. our ID here is respect and that you must earn with your actions. PCA is more like a family. you don't need an id to be a member of a family. it should be on your blood.
ok hanggang dito na lang dumudugo na ang ilong ko napasubo ako mag english. hehe.

yeah
we're a family
we're a team
we have the same vision:
"to spread the cube nationwide"
sana ganun din ang vision niyo
thinking of others who want to learn to solve the cube before thinking of yourselves only
it's not our individual selves now, it's us

Re: Suggestion: PCA ID
Wow, this is an interesting topic! From an ID suggestion, ballooned into a big issue of being a PCA member.
I've carefully read all preceding replies.
I will point out on the replies (but I won't be mentioning names kng sino nagsabi...dami kc..hehehe)
Medyo magulo nga ang membership ng PCA. Pero kahit ganun, may nkita akong post dito na ang PCA ay WCA-recognized...
Tama nga ung may nagsabi na "Being a PCA member is in the blood...PCA is a family."
We don't need an ID to be part of this family.
If ever naman pag usapan toh sa isang meeting, do you think everyone would take it seriously? yung mangyayari lng nyan magcucube lng mga tao dyan...Besides, I don't even hear from Mr. Lester Santos (pag may cube meet) mention anything about legitimacy of membership because it's simply in the blood.
Ang akin lang,
Let's just stay humblei. Let's put n our minds that although [speed]cubing has become our passion (or addiction, which includes me!) cubing is, in the eyes of people, just a hobby. We don't need legitimacy as members. We just create bonds from this "hobby". But for those people who dedicate almost their whole lives for this, thanks to you. Cubing has become one of the favorite "hobbies". Because I know, admit it or not, not all of us would make a career out of speedcubing.
I hope you guys got my point.
Sana wag na natin palakihin ang issue na toh. It's just a discussion. Let's just create bonds and keep them strong and stronger...See you guys on cube meets!!! Happy Cubing! =p

Re: Suggestion: PCA ID
Mga Sir,.
Another Idea...
---Masyado nang madami ang member ng PCA kaya mas maganda na in every cities or regions,. my representative or set of representatives na my direct na communication sa mga responsible na moderator ng PCA...
---ID Good Idea po... Pero there must be a process na hindi lang sa posts dadaan ang transactions,. Pag pinagawa, kailangan, nkalagay dn dun yung pinaka personal best ng isang member,. and to prove that,. my representative na magsa-sign n concrete at hindi lang bolahan,. Hindi naman siguro nkkhya kung 5mins k mkabuo,. being a member is a big thing... at least, you are aiming for a sub20 thing...

Re: Suggestion: PCA ID
Well, being a real member doesn't really count on your post counts..
That doesn't matter to me much..
What matters is that may na-contribute ka sa forum na maganda/malaki..
It's not based on how much you post.. It's how prominent you are to the forum and to the other people in the forum..
And yes, loyalty rin.. I've been a forum moderator for 4 years now, and I gotta say that loyalty contributes to you being a good forum member, provided, of course, that you post stuff with sense naman..

Yes, this is true. Board members are now taking actions to organize things, but it will take awhile. You have to wait.

As what Mods sez... formallity of PCA is on going... its in the final stage!
Re: Suggestion: PCA ID
ganito lang po yan , simple lang ,ang idea ko ang bibigyan lang ng id eh ung mga sub 30 cubers , o d ba, para at least maraming pinoy na mag pursigi na matuto mag cube para ang pilipinas ay makilala d lang marunong magbuo ng cube , makilala rin na MARAMING MABILIS bumuo ng cube , thats the true pca member who give their time and effort para matutununan ito ng seryosohan and you will see sisikat ang pinas sa cubing, sub 30 + active sa cubemeet + sumali na sa official competition + their giving time and idea para mapaganda pa ang pca = TRUE PCA MEMBER

Re: Suggestion: PCA ID
Being a member of this forum is not an assurance to be a member of PCA?
then what is? If you start a thread in "I Exist" people say
then now I'm not an assured to be a member?
maybe it should be....
@marccube
i disagree, i think it's very elitist if you only give id's (if you're gonna release one) to those who are only "sub 30".
@magickero
is kinda right. you just need to know how to solve the cube, (at least)
you could pay fees to process stuff (nothing in life is free)
someone said here that speed should not be a "requirement" (Frankly I'm saying this because im not a "sub20" solver)
if you just know how to solve,or is trying to learn,
should be considered a Member of PCA.
Please clear things up, I know this is Pinoyspeedcubers.com.
But does PCA (Philippine Cubers Assoc) mean that you NEED to be fast? (read the previous posts, some are confused with the meaning of PCA)
If so, change it to Philippine SPEEDcubers Association, right?
I've just noticed that those who really speedsolve
(by those who speedsolve I mean, people
who are able to at least solve the cube in sub 60 seconds)
say that you have to:
(yeah, yeah, they're only opinions...)
participate/ participated in a cubing tourney
be a sub .xx something...
attend cubemeets..
you have to be active in posting...
What if you're busy? went out of the country for example? your
PC is broken?
then you're out??
And some says that you are a cuber if you love solving etc....
that's nice but it's too good to be true....
It's just confusing how to be a member of PCA while reading different posts regarding membership.
Im saying these because until now, no concrete steps has been done or announced since the start of this thread. (I may be mistaken)
I've joined several associations in the past, though nothing about
gaming/puzzle solving related ones... And I want to set one
example about a bonafide association recognized internationally.
(I'm not saying that PCA is not recognized.)
the PNA (sounds like PCA huh?) or the Philippine Nurses Association is a globally recognized org that only requires:
of course, nurses to finish/ have a degree in nursing, regardless
how many years before you graduate,
what's your score in the board exam or if you attend conventions,
practice your profession or love being a nurse.
You just have to pay a sum, go to their office, register, get you're ID and guess what? You're part of PNA.
(for those whose IQ's are at least above 90, you could see the similarities between the two orgs.
again you might say, this is not PNA dummy,
so stop comparing! As if I care.. )
To be part of this Team, Association, Family, Organization whatever you call it:
You don't have to be a speedcuber, you just need to solve one..
It doesn't matter if it take you a year to learn Fridrich, Petrus...
don't need to have your OFFICIAL time as sub 30...
If you've attended/will attend/havent attended any of the cubemeets....
Don't need to cube every day... or at least practice..
I hope you could use this as an outline to form PCA.
then what is? If you start a thread in "I Exist" people say
"Welcome to PCA!"...
then now I'm not an assured to be a member?

Re: Suggestion: PCA ID
It's useless and senseless to join an organization like this if you just want to be called a member. Being affiliated in an organization is a big responsibility not only for your self but in cooperating it's program or system. There should an effort like, solve the cube less than 30 seconds and being active in such events like the past RCPO2K8..
(Just an opinion)

Re: Suggestion: PCA ID
Really now? what if I just learned a week ago?
my solving time is 2 minutes flat?
1st Fact: I'm a cuber. (A cuber meaning: loves to solve cubes,
solved one at least, has a goal of a sub xx.xx)
2nd Fact: Since I just learned, how could I participate in an event?
(I would not even qualify!)
3rd Fact: Isn't it not enough EFFORT to learn at least how to speed cube?
Again, if the above are the requirements, we should change PCA
to Philippine SPEEDCUBER'S Association.
Too elitist yes, but that's what you're implying.
