Is it possibleto have only 1 CPU (SERVER) para sa 30 client workstations?

we have 150k budget flat for that project on hand. Pwede ba yun? Can you give me specs of the server-type rig that could do multi-tasking and could handle 30 users at a time?

iseset-up namin ito sa computer room namin sa bago naming computer laboratory sa school may room na provided for us. and we would like to maximize the usage of that fund. pwede ba yun... please, if mag-exceed ng 150k ung server please post parin...

eto lang naman workloads eh.

dreamweaver, photoshop, vb.net, at MS Office packages... pwede ba?

thanks for the updates. badly needed next sem...

if i understand right, the 150k budget is for the server only.

if this is the case, then with your usage needs, i believe you can setup more than just 1 server. perhaps you can have 3 or 4 servers with your budget.

important thing is you have a high-speed LAN (gigabit) and each server to have hard disks with the most cost effective fastest disk access you can get within your budget.

your network connections and hard disk access are your main bottlenecks as i see your intended usage. you can also easily load balance your applications with multiple servers.

of course, licensing issues is another story which i assume is not to be included in your budget.

'hope this helps.

para sa yung server mo? if you intend to use it only for dreamweaver, photoshop and MS office.
para san yung vb.net? meron bang application program?
i think what you need is only a FILE SHARING and u don't need to put a server.

but if you have an application program, saka ka gumamit ng server.
clone server pwede na. kung gusto mo mas matipid at secured. gumamit ka ng Linux.

kung file sharing lang din, gumamit ka na lang ng EXTERNAL BACKUP device like
Maxtor 300GB Shared Storage External Hard Drive NAS, which can be access
via TC/IP or LAN.
Maraming cheap na LAN BACKUP like BUFFALO, around 6,000pesos, 350GB.

btw, kulang ang 150K na budget nyo. u need at least 250,000 para sa WINDOWS OEM licenses.
pero mas cheaper na ang VISTA Business Edition (pwde sya downgrade sa XP para di
malaki requirement sa hardware).

ever heard of thin-client workstations?
that's the best solution yet...
you'll need a proper consultant regarding your project...
and a carefully laid-out structured cabling for that matter...
not to mention putting up the correct specs per workstation..
i think 150K is not enough...
it's not a joke putting up a large-scale system like that...

@ joms

di yun xa 7.5k each...

@ great

i think you are referring to atom series..

@ skibrubic

yeah, database server ko rin sana gagamitin, i have 2 running databases at deccentralized pa sya, i would love to centralize those.... that's the second priority. file sharing is is on top of it para sa mga estudyante na nawawalan ng files heheh... thanks skib...

@ all

thanks guys.... i think skib had the best solution yet...

ano "backend" mo para sa database?
Access Jet-engine, MS-SQL, Paradox, MySQL?
syempre very limited using Access.
for MS-SQL, you need MS SERVER 2003 and up (around 40,000pesos with 5 CAL), then share mo na lang yung application or using the secured Active Directory Service of Microsoft.
kung web-based ang application mo (client-less), tipid talaga kung MySQL running in Linux, then you can still make use yung mga low spec PCs like P3 since it's a client-less application that can run in any browser. i think pag ganto setup, im sure magkakasya budget nyo.
