rejuvenated cuber
im jmson.. if you know jb cañares current philippine record holder for 3x3x3, im one of his early mentors in solving the rubik's cube, or let me say, im the one who influence him in playing this puzzle... i even popularize the rubik's cube in our school, La Salle Academy, where me, rcferraris, metaboring john and jb cañares graduated in high school, of course jb was behind 2 years from us. im even faster than him during those times though using the layer by layer method... not until he discovered that this puzzle can be solve faster... then mr. jb uses his resourcefulness in finding the formulas in solving the cube, he first tried the petrus, roux then fridrich... but later on he improvised a combination method which uses a fridrich and layer method... but he's not yet contented with his time of less than a minute.. then he persevere in studying the fridrich method and made a sensational 2nd place finish in the recently concluded first philippine rubiks cube open...
lets get back to time... after i graduated highschool in 2002,i lost my cube which cost around 130pesos that can be bought in national bookstore.. then i stopped cubing for a time.. then i got a cube again in 2004, we then started our Group called the Rubiks Cube solvers society with the four of us as the founders.. our main goal is just to gather people locally from the internet that knows how to solve the cube.. not until year 2005 where jb showed me that he can solve it in less than a minute... that time, i even doubt if i can still solve the cube using our traditional layer method.. so i bought another cube from national bookstore, right then i started my struggle to achieve an average time of sub 60.. then jb, got his first original cube, where i got very envy coz i cant get one and i dont know where i could buy it.... then my cube broke.. then i stopped again.. i remember that time that i could only play a cube when john and jb gets home for sembreak, christmas and summer... john and jb even bought a cube(from national bookstore) for me but it instantly broke after a day of using it... then they taught me some simple moves of fridrich like the down cross and f2l...
fast forward.. not until this year that my friend (eman) bought me an original cube (rubiks.com)... then i started to learn the fridrich method, when i was learning the down cross and f2l, i stupidly lubricate my cube with a VCO... not knowing that it will break the cube... i only knew right then that silicone spray was the answer.... then i stopped again for 2 months.. not until when i got into my friends house, i found an original rubiks cube (rubiks.com), similar to mine... i ask my friend if anybody in their house knows how to play it but none of them can even solve one side. so,i ask her if i could bring it home and she let me have it...
now, i can say that i can familiarize all the f2l moves... but still i have problems in color recognition... using the f2l ,some oll moves and using some moves of third layer from the classical layer method.. my average now is 1 min.. one time i solved it for 32 seconds but with skips. i consider 43 seconds as my fastest time...
with the inspiration of my friends namely john cañares, raphael ferraris and the first local record holder jb cañares, im very determined to reach an average time of sub20... so help me God.

welcome po!
i really enjoy listening to the stories coming from people who have been cubing for a long time already.
you guys should listen to benjo's stories too someday.

Re: rejuvenated cuber
i want to hear mr. erno rubik's story... he had to start from scratch, because he was the only one who had the puzzle when it was a prototype.. it took him three months to solve it..

Re: rejuvenated cuber
this is for all cubers who think that an average of sub20 is difficult to achieve..
whew! it took me almost a year to achieve my goal of sub20.
hopefully i could do better in the future...
so i hope you guys wont be discourage if you think your a "slow solver". swerte nyo nga ngayon kasi madali na lang makakuha ng orig na cubes. and mas marami na mapagkukunan ng tips...
its only a matter of time and practice...
i hope you guys would be inspired by my story...
sorry so mga mods if i bring up old topic again.. i just want them to be inspired.
