Break-In: Sand in the Cube
What I did was to disassemble an edge piece from my 3x3x3, spray in a little amount of lube, then drop in a couple of pinches of fine sand, pop the edge back in, and then use the cube with the sand in the cube for about a day or so, then take it apart and clean the sand. Its better than sandpaper, cause you can see the difference after you clean the cube. You could see grooves that correspond with the movement of the cube making your cube go faster.

Re: Break-In: Sand in the Cube
hehehe i wont, DIY cubes are too expensive hehehe it'll break in by itself, but with my experience using sand is better than sandpaper.
Re: Break-In: Sand in the Cube
The sand technique works wonders. I have done this to one of my cube, and the non-sanded ones seem overly tight relative to the sanded one.
I SWEAR, combined with silicone lubricant, its waay way out of the league of newly bought cubes.
Sanded cubes could compare to the eastsheen easiness to turn. It also eliminates lock-ups and stuff.
What I did was, poured sand on the cube (not INSIDE), then brutally wear it off by twisting vigoriously on all axes. Cleaned it off, then played with it. then cleaned it off again, and applied silicone spray. The resulting one contests a DIY cube in speedcubing characteristics :D:D::D

Re: Break-In: Sand in the Cube
did it with my DIY cube today, just cant wait to break-in the cube, threw in a couple of pinches of fine sand then turned the hell out of the cube. Looks pretty good now, smooth grooves are made by the sand making the cube go a little faster, excess plastics are sanded down by the sand, perfect. hehehe
Re: Break-In: Sand in the Cube
be sure
to lube your cube first
then put pinch of sand
then cube, and keep cubing
then disassemble your cube
clean it
assemble it again
