Hey, 1 week of Cubing and have some questions
well..
I'm Rama
turning 18 on March 24
Ilive in Marilao,Bulacan
i'm pretty much a beginner, i bought my cube from National Bookstore (its from Mabuhay)
i learned from YouTube (pogobat's tutorial)
that's it.. i only know that technique '^_^
i'm really into cubing now
i will buy also 2x2x2 4x4x4 and 5x5x5
oh.. and i cant really speak tagalog (still learning)
moved to Philippines in 2006
i have some questions
i couldnt find silicone spray on ACE hardware
what i bought is "STP Multi-Purpose Lubricant Spray"
is that ok?
what is the best thing we can use and where to buy it?
my stickers are fading out
(thanks to petrollium jelly)
do they sell stickers in Pinas?
what should i learn next?
i really dont have much idea about other methods and such.. so please be clear ^^
i was excited when i found out that there was a Filipino cube site/Philippine Cube Association/Philippines&Diliman Open
i'm really desired to be a speedcuber
and i want to compete next year =]
that's all for now
~peace

Re: Hey, 1 week of Cubing and have some questions
1. Lubricant
The multi-purpose lubricant is great, although anything with WD-40 is a bit powerful and may destroy the inner surfaces of the cube. It's not that often, though. The best brand would still be Cyclo Silicone Spray. It's priced at P279.75, last time I checked. It's available in ACE Hardware, Handyman, and Home Hardware DIY shops.
2. Cubes
The NBS cube is sucky, to be honest. You cannot ever reach sub-60 with that one unless you do some major modifications. There is a thread here that discusses its modification but I'd rather that you check out any Toys R' Us outlet, preferably the one in Trinoma since that is closer to Bulacan, and get a Rubiks.com cube. That is the official, most decent non-DIY cube available so far.
3. Stickers
Hans (username: BaruhBal) is selling stickers for low prices. He comes to almost every cubemeet organized and he always brings lots of stickers. I bought from him two sets and they still stick up to now. Check the Cubemeet or Marketplace forums for more information.
4. Method
Study CFOP/Fridrich. Immediately. Do not let the number of algorithms fool you. Stick to LBL too long and you'll be very reliant on it. Ken (username: superken) immediately went for the CFOP and he's sub-20 in a couple of months. I suggest you start now. A summer competition is on the works and you should be there by then.
5. General Reminders
Always use the SEARCH function located at the top of the screen. It's not that ok as for the moment but still, use it. It will save you a lot of time. Or scour the forums manually. It is divided to semi-specific topics so there should be no difficulty in checking out what you need.
Second, do not post inane questions and topics like most members do. It is fun and all to make this forum, well, fun but stick to what the essentials of this forum is about.
Third, if a question is a small one, try asking it over YM or through a PM to any of the loyal members (yellow names) or moderators (green and violet names) or by updating an old thread with your question.
Fourth and last, but never the least, practice and have fun. We hope to see you around. Welcome to the PCA.
EDIT: Check the links in my signature for more info on cubes and the like.

Re: Hey, 1 week of Cubing and have some questions
Welcome to PCA! Enjoy your stay. Jome's right with the Fridrich method. It's doing wonders for me. I use it and after maybe two months of cubing, I'm sub40.

Re: Hey, 1 week of Cubing and have some questions
So you're pretty much a Filipino, but why are you having a hard time speaking tagalog? Were you raised in an english speaking environment? Anyway...welcome to PCA. I'm sure you'll learn alot about cubing and tagalog here.
