what's the secret of looking ahead?
Really,, what's the secret of looking ahead..? Lots of Vit A..? I used metronome for a day and i haven't made a perfect solve along with the beats. Damn, there are also times that i'm confused whether I'll rotate the cube or do F2L sym... I dont want to be stuck at my current ave..! T.T

Re: what's the secret of looking ahead?
dude i suggest mag slow solve ka..
then while executing try to find the next pair pra continuous ung flow ng solve mo..
=)

Re: what's the secret of looking ahead?
dude... the "secret" of looking ahead is to focus on / track the next f2l pair you are going to go for while doing your current f2l pair subconsciously.

Re: what's the secret of looking ahead?
Napansin ko,, pag nag one-hand (which is a kind a sort of slow solve) ako then mag 2-hand ako bigla akong bumibilis... ewan ko ba kung bakit,, nag improve rin recognition ko ng unti,, kaya one-hand mode ako ngayon eh...

Re: what's the secret of looking ahead?
Simple lang: look ahead. At di ako nagbibiro.
Most cubers tend to watch their actions while moving. Wag kang masanay. Break your neck if you have to. Sabi nga ni Dan Knights, that was one of the most significant changes na ginawa niya to get sub-18 times nung sub-2x pa lang siya.
Kung malabo, let me explain:
Note: My theory may not stand. Correct me if needed.
May tendency tayo to watch how the pieces go, lalo na sa F2L, dahil ang una nating inaaral ang LL. Sa LL, we learn how to anticipate case changes, lalo na kung di tayo 2-look LL (one OLL, one PLL). We also tend to memo the execution of pieces and not the algorithm, so we look for telltale signs na tama ginagawa natin (ex. "Uy, sune, nasaan na buntot?.. Aha! *Bira bira bira* or "Letter T na, tapos na kalahati ng Y perm!").
Dahil dun, nasasanay tayo to watch pieces as they go so that alam natin kung nasaang stage na tayo sa algorithm natin at kung tama ba tayo. This is true for people who execute algorithms ng mabagal pa (like 6 seconds or so).
The fault with studying the LL earlier than F2L is that we carry over that "habit". We tend to watch our F2L algorithms such that we expect them to be formed ng parang LL cases. The problem with this is that we forget that pagkatapos ng isang pairing+insertion, we will have a lull in locating the next pair.
So, ang good method to look ahead is just that: LOOK AHEAD. Sabi nga ni Makisumi, "Slow down and look ahead! In case you didn't read that, SLOW DOWN AND LOOK AHEAD! I cannot emphasize this enough." And he is right. Kasi kung di mo pipilitin, mababano ka after one pair.
Now, dahil tapos na ang theory part, let's go to practice. Ang pinakasimpleng paraan is not to go metro nor go slow. Ang best practice is this: Slow step by step.
Cross muna. While finishing the cross, pause. As in pause. Then look for one pair without rotating the cube. Imagine mo nag Chronosphere ka muna then you have three seconds to locate the nearest pair. Then finish the cross.
Go to the first pair. Before executing that pair, pause again. Force yourself to find at least the corner of the next nearest possible pair. Edges are easy to locate, corners aren't (because you can't possibly see what's underneath without intense intuition or taking time to look under). Kapag nakita mo na, force yourself, again, FORCE YOUR NECK/EYES/HEAD/BRAIN/WHATEVER to execute that algo for the first pair while looking at the SECOND pair's corner.
Why do this? Kasi kapag natapos mo na, you have an idea where the corner is. After nun, regrip if necessary, then locate the edge (there are only 8 places for the edge to appear in, and you can quickly deduce through practice kung nasaan sila, ie. back 2nd layer or back 3rd layer) the execute algo again while looking for the third pair's corner.
So yun lang. Pause, locate, execute, pause, locate, execute.
Good luck.
Note 2: This was integral in my training to get lower from sub-28 to sub-21.

Re: what's the secret of looking ahead?
to aid you in your slow solves, use a metronome na nakaset na 60 bpm. meaning, 1 move per second ang gagawin mo. tignan lang natin kung di ka mapuwersang maghanap ng pieces kung 1 move/second ang ginagawa mo. kalimutan ang finger tricks, dahil ang pinapraktis mo sa slow solving ay recognition. tapos cross + f2l lang ang gawin mo. ignore mo muna LL. hope this helps.

Re: what's the secret of looking ahead?
Yup, tama si Neil. Ignore the LL. Wala namang lookahead dun eh.
Just do the F2L. Try 60 bpm, then 120 bpm, then 180 bpm kung pwede. This tests your real TPS (turning plus look ahead speed). Increments of 60 bpm para more or less 1 tps ang dagdag per session.
When you find that you are not getting the hang of it at higher rates, restart at 60 bpm. Then make your way up again. When stopping, restart.

focus den sa crossing try to make ur last move D,D',u' or u so dat mai look ahead ka na sa 1st pair d ka na mag stop un kxe normal na nanyayari after cross dey stop 4r ilan secs just looking for pairs

Galing talaga ni sir jome. Try ko nga, baka stepping stone na 'to to sub-20. Hehe. ^_^ F2L ko 15-20s eh, kaya kailangan talaga i-improve. Well, practice, practice.
Re: what's the secret of looking ahead?

Re: what's the secret of looking ahead?
Is it just like in billiards? Isasakto mo yung position nung next target mo para madali nalang i-shoot after mo mashoot yung current target mo? Kelangan mo mag look ahead to do that dba? Pero in billiards, you have more time unlike in cubing,, haha...

nEwo. your thread title seems to be an ANSWER to a certain QUESTION. to me, this thread is more of a starting question then suggestions that flow in.
in my opinion, the title could be: "what is the secret of 'looking ahead'"?
