Techniques, Tips and Ideas Sharing Thread
Hi guys! Since Speedcubing is the only sport where people actually help each other out to get better so they can beat the crap out of each other in competitions, I thought of creating a thread for people to share their own knowledge about speedcubing! This is the place where you post any unusual algs you know, what to do in a tight situation, any tips in looking ahead and whatnot
But lets make this clean. Share somethings unique or unpopular, but you think might help in speedcubing. And let's refrain from giving tips for cube maintenance or buying, we have lots of topics for those. This is strictly between your fingers and the cube You can ask somethings about the tips that person gave, but please use proper quotation to avoid confusion, and do not spam. For this thread, let's consider asking "Teach me f2l" a spam you can ask certain tips, give the situation and ask away, but do not ask general topics like how to do f2l, cross, should u switch method, etc.
OKAY! let me start off.
F2L: Some alternative algorithms.
In a solved cube, do R U R' U' 3x
Sometimes I do this by placing the corner in the BL position then doing (z) F' R U' R' U R' F (z')
Solved cube, R U' R' U' F' U F U
I converted my alg into R' F' R U R U' R' F
Both algs are from Erik Akkersdijk
E Perm: (x) U R' U' L U R U' L' U R U' L U R' U' L' (x')
( u can do the last L' as an r')
This was modified from the algs used by my friends in UP UP FIGHT!
The rest are things ive created on my own
also, if you have one flipped edge piece for the cross, place that in the right face. then do either R u' R u or R' u R' u'.
N perms:
I am fond of J perms, so I modified my N into a setup-J-undo sequence.
i.e. (R U R' U) (R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U') (U' R U R')
as you can see, there will be a cancellation of 2 (U')s and it becomes 1 (U2). it has very fast triggers.
you can do the same with the other N, although I have not found any cancellations (in the optimized way, meaning using right hand only. if you can mirror the above alg, its ur choice )
Trivia: Did you know that a fast J Perm, R U2 R' U' R U2 L' U R' U' L (and the mirror, inverse and mirror-inverse) is made up of 2 different kinds of Sune?

@benjediman...
thanks again sir...

Re: Techniques, Tips and Ideas Sharing Thread
waaah... my very long post wasnt posted.. i havent saved it before posting... ill try to make this short [sob sob sob]:
another tip from UPD (UP FIGHT!!! hehe):
"my own" conjecture in making(or judging if they are good algos) PLL finger tricks:
delete as many regrips as you can [everyone knows that, but here's my addition]... specially HORIZONTAL REGRIPS (y and y' cube rotations)... vertical regrips are more manageable [such as in t-perm] coz they dont sacrifice as much support as in HORIZONTAL regrips... also... note that when doing horizontal regrips, you just somtimes change your thumb position.. whereas in HORIZONTAL, you adjust your whole hand position, which is more risky in dropping the cube...
this tip can also be applied to one-hand cubing

Re: Techniques, Tips and Ideas Sharing Thread
using the same set-up move benjidman stated (found this out after 3-5 days he told me bout the new nperm).. if you execute the jperm on the other way, and undo the set-up move, you get the y-perm.. although i dont use this algo... it is an alternative
also, i have my own v-perm (own fingertricks derived from speedcubing.com algo) and f-perm (15 moves and 3 vertical regrips versus 15 moves and some vertical and horizontal regrips [4 i think] from the original f-perm).. in which i explained very long but i failed posting it (damn internet sucks)... il be posting it later nxt wk cgro...

sige boss mark... post po ninyo...
yun din napansin about j-perm... pero hirap me talaga before sa n-perm...
tapos sa n-perm i used mirror... i used left hand... eh yung algo na ginagamit ko although madali... nakakalito na when i do the mirror... minsan nga yung totoong algo naagagawa kong mirror eh... heheheheheh... LOL...

Re: Techniques, Tips and Ideas Sharing Thread
no prob guys
@ nEwo: although i'd like to do ur request, i think the best way to help you is to show u all the algorithms there is for every situation. go to speedsolving.com, speedcubing area, and you will see 2 sticky threads, one for pll and one for oll. they tried to list all the algos they know for every pll and oll. you can try them out and see which set best fits u, although its time consuming
@thejoker: i think the inverse, mirror and mirror-inverse ARE the ones that are popularly used although its best to translate everything to one hand if you can, like right, since everybody is right handed these days

@benjediman...
that is what i'm trying right now... converting my left to right mode... kaya bagsak uli average ko... tapos CROSS from anywhere to bottom... hirap magadjust...
f2l ko kasi heavily mirrored eh... gumagamit talaga ako ng kaliwa... ngayon kinokonvert ko na sa kanan... pati PLL... ngayon mukha mabilis pa sa akin si JR eh... OT na pala...
thanks again to the ALGS...

ok i have a problem here: my pll is slow(about 2-3.xx secs and 3-5,xx for e-perm)
sa tingin ko e2 yung balakid pra di ako maka sub 25. minsan rin last move ko bigla nlng mag paPOP kaasar. any techniques pra bumilis ang pll except for pll time attack?
TY

Re: Techniques, Tips and Ideas Sharing Thread
TRIVIA ON N-PERM:
actually, ive just discovered this lately by chance...
THE ORIGINAL 14-MOVE (tama ba? basta yung both right and left hand fingertricks involving 2F2L pieces) N-PERM is actually 2 J-PERM algorithms that were optimized SO MUCH that it cancelled some of the moves required for the 2 algorithms used on n-perm...
check one of bob burton's jperms at cubewhiz.com, it is one of the jperms used and the other is the exact inverse step of that jperm algo..
isnt that surprising?!?! ü
also there are some OLL's that can be derived from other OLL'S IF you try the ff:
1)take inverses and/or mirror moves of algorithms and see what effect it has done on your cube.
2)try to add extra moves in the middle of algos before returning to the orig. steps (il try to xlain l8r a video post on this if i can after vacation).. but an example of this is bob burton's double sune algorithm w/c a CONJUGATE [a type of algorithm] consisting of:
A) SET-UP MOVE: F
B) R U R' U' [or (right hand trigger) + U'] for 3 times
C) UNDO SET-UP MOVE: F'
notice that there were 3 RH triggers in between the setup and undo set-up move.. what if you added another trigger? it will actually solve another OLL CASE..ü
there are other algos similar to this algorithm.. in fact there are 4 other OLLs that can be derived from this by varying the number of triggers from 1 to 5 triggers (notice that on the 6th trigger and continuing the undo setup move, the LL returns to it's original OLL case)
but why bother using RH triggers 5 times???
this is answered by inverse algorithms. if you 5-RH trigger OLL case, you can actually do the 1-inverseof-RHtrigger step and have the same effect on the cube
equivalently, the double sune algorithm can be done using 3-inverseof-RHtrigger... ü
so you've just actually derived 4 OLL cases from 1... ü it's like
"buy one take 4" .... ü

there's no really a shorcut for f2l... it is very intuitive in nature (though there are algos that arent very intuitive)
