Pure intuitive solving
Remember when you picked up a cube for the first time and decide to solve it? Have you ever succeeded without the knowledge of the word "algorithms"? Have you solved it even if you did not ask your friend or dan brown for help? If yes... post and share na lang your experience:D
My experience.... ay.... i never did it without algs pala =))

Re: Pure intuitive solving
Intuitive, never. Invented my own algorithms when I was studying the cube. Actually, discovered. Ken later on pointed out that my algorithms were inefficient variations of the ones used in LBL. Oh well. The suckiness of being a newbie then.
Re: Pure intuitive solving
no..never the whole cube..paisa isang face lang.. at enjoy na enjoy na ako nun..haha..

Re: Pure intuitive solving
when i was learning the cube back in 2001, RCF taught me how to form a side. then i discovered my own way up to the 2nd layer. then sa 3rd layer we consulted a book. di pa kasi kami masyadong gumagamit ng internet that time eh. and ang mahiwagang book na yun ay di na namin makita. last time na remember namin ay hiniram ng Physics teacher namin sa highschool. di namin natandaan kung naibalik ba nya or hindi. ayun.

eiow
aq nung bata p q nakakabuo na q ng 1 face lang
tuwang-tuwa nq q dun
then accidentally
nakabuo aq ng 2 faces. sobra tuwa q na naman
pero nung wala na yung rubik's ng cuz q tumigil aq.
then nakahawak aq college n ulet
natuwa aq
xe nakabuo n q ng 1 buong-buo for the first time
then madame ng-aral samen nun. may rival aq dun eh.
bumilis din cya mga 2 min
eh d p q sanay nun. kaming 2 mabilis sa rum
nagrace p nga kame eh.nanalo aq.
nung nalaman q ung mga methods n iba. aun
ndi na nya q hinahamon
hehehe
aq naun ang pinakamabilis sa room namen
hahaha

Re: Pure intuitive solving
I did it without algs for a year. But that is NOT intuitive, that is analysis. You cannot solve the cube by following your feelings, what your gut tells you prior from solving the cube. You can solve it through trial-and-error process and a heavy amount of thinking. People should know what intuitive means. Solving the cube intuitively is not in the beginner's level, in-fact its in the advance level already. When beginners solve the cube it requires a lot of thinking, not feelings. But when a cuber matures and gets a lot of experience, that experience turns into gut feelings (intuition), and that intuition is very helpful for cubers averaging 17 and below. Take note of that. Especially F2L, there is no such thing as intuitive F2L for beginners, and intuitive F2L is not learned from others but from your own experience. Intuitive F2L is one of the most advance form of F2L. I don't know who made this joke about intuitive F2L for beginners, I'm sure he doesn't know what intuitive means.
Intuitive na nga eh, tinuturo pa? Intuition is subjective, epistemologically speaking.

Re: Pure intuitive solving
The "intuitive" solution that I know is commutator based:
http://grrroux.free.fr/begin/Begin.html
I know, it's ironic that instructions for an intuitive method exist, but this one uses no long term memorization and teaches you how to derive the 4 necessary and sufficient "algos" as you solve. It's inefficient but elegant.
I don't know though if I could have figured out this method on my own, in true intuitive sense. But I believe it's possible for some.
Edited to add:
Those who play with the cube for the first time tend to "solve" in terms of stickers, not cubies. Hmm, dunno if you get what I mean, but I think that's a stumbling block for beginning attempts at an intuitive solution.

Intuitive F2L is very helpful for sub15, sub14, sub13, sub12, sub11 cubers.

so what i did for 3x3x3 wasn't really intuitive at all.. haha.. rather, i used a trial-and-error specially for the last layer, wrote what i did. i solved 3x3x3 for bout 2-3months with a pen and paper.
everything else that i solved w/o algorithms after 3x3x3, like 2x2x2, 4x4x4, 5x5x5 were i guess pretty intuitive since i just ADAPTED the 3x3x3 solution and made a few little changes as i progressed. hehe. same for the megaminx in 3 hours (w/c i posted in another thread. haha)

Re: Pure intuitive solving
back in the early 80's, i was able to solve just 1 face. then summer of 1984, i started to read the manual included in a national bookstore cube. i learned to solve my cube after 3 weeks of studying. it was really LBL! back then, i was like the only one who could solve a cube in our community. sikat! haha! it took me about 105 secs to solve one. hehe.
ngayon, lahat na ata marunong na.

Re: Pure intuitive solving
ako... i post a brief history of my cubing... around 80's yun... grade 5 ako... 2nd grading when i see one sa klasmeyt ko...
took almost a week to solve a one face color... sikat na agad... tapos pabilisan... then ng magkaroon ako ng sarili ko... almost a year... kasi summer yun... mag-ge-grade 6 ako... mga fruits... original rubiks... naka crystal case na pabilog... transparent sya tapos black yun base... mga grapes, orange, apple etc...
with that cube with me the whole summer... i found out intuitively how to solve two face... yun magkatabi... yun ang pinakamari kong nasosolve using intuitive...
tapos kumalat nga ang solusyon... puro algs na... ang intuition na lang is yun first face or first layer... color neutral pa ako back then... up until this year... when i started to learn speedcubing... naging white base na ako...
hay... the old good days... sobra yabang ko nun... grade 6 na nakakabuo ng cube... that time bihira lang... ngayon kahit saan me magpunta marunong na lahat...
hehehehhehehe... :D:D::DD
