What generation of cubers we belong to???

What generation of cubers we belong to? second generation cubers? third? fourth?
For me, we belong to second, third or fourth, because the first cubers where in 1982. So, if we consider every decade, we will be the third generation. If we consider it otherwise, we are the second generations(Cubers from 2003 till now or from 200)

I don't mean generation by age, I mean generation by when the cuber started.

What about those famous cubers like Tyson Mao, Jessica Fridich and others?

I learned in 2001, that makes me 3rd. By the way Jessica Fridrich is way back in the 1980's, she participated in the first world championships.

I officially started cubing this July 2007, so i belong to third or fourth generation? And cubers on 80's belong to the first generation. Thanks

Well, 1st generation is of course all those cubers who were cubing in the 80's. 2nd generation is those who began again when the craze was just restarting, in 2001/2002, like myself. 2006- cubers are possibly the 3rd generation, but maybe part of the 2nd generation. It's hard to say! In 20 years time, we will all be 2nd generation

I think generation is not just about decades. It's the group of people within a certain time. Speed cubing boomed in the 80's, then it disappeared for a while, then, went back in the 2000's to present. I think we belong to the 2nd generation. Generations may overlap of course.

I agree. Cubing went "out of fashion" for a while. We are either 2nd or 3rd generation... not sure if cubing had a "golden period" sometime in the early 90's.
