Go to the first pair. Before executing that pair, pause again. Force yourself to find at least the corner of the next nearest possible pair. Edges are easy to locate, corners aren't (because you can't possibly see what's underneath without intense intuition or taking time to look under). Kapag nakita mo na, force yourself, again, FORCE YOUR NECK/EYES/HEAD/BRAIN/WHATEVER to execute that algo for the first pair while looking at the SECOND pair's corner.
I have to emphasize this part. Jerome hit this point perfectly. this is really really helpful. While executing an algorithm, instead of looking for the next PAIR at once, just look for the CORNER ONLY, then, just pair it up with its corresponding edge. Then, while pairing it up with the edge, look for another CORNER, again not a pair, then pair it up again with the next edge. Why is this helpful? Looking ahead becomes less stressful if you look for only a corner instead of a pair at once. Why the corner, and not the edge? It's because edges will be easier to locate later on for pairing unlike the corner, so you need more effort on locating the corner. I asked Chia once how i'm going to improve my recognition when we were in Cebu. And, this was what he told me to do.

Re: what's the secret of looking ahead?
uhm..guys..kakabasa ko lang nito sa isang thread..nd ko na talaga mahalungkat ung thread..pero bago lang un eh..di ko na kc matandaan kung saan..ang isang technique daw sa pag look ahead ay..LOOK FOR THE CORNER..NOT THE EDGE..NOT THE CORNER AND THE EDGE..BUT THE CORNER AND THE CORNER ONLY..kc..once nakita na daw ang corner piece..madali na din hanapin ung edge..THIS TIP WORKS..kakatry ko lang kanina..nagaverage of 5 ako..tapos 2wing matatapos ung f2l ko..susulyap ako sa timer para alam ko kung gano katagal f2l..at nagulat naman ako..nd lumalagpas ng 20 secs f2l ko dahil sa tip na to! dati umaabot mga 21 or 22..pero nung cnubukan ko to..naging 16-20 seconds lang ang range nya..:O so..i think this really works for noob cubers like me..syempre nd na to gagana sa mga mamaw kc pag naglolook ahead ata kayo both corner and edge piece ung hinahanap nyo eh..
so...
ganito ginagawa ko:
1. while finishing cross..look for 1st corner
2. after finishing cross..put corner above it's f2l slot..while doing this..look for edge (partner nung 1st corner)
3. then i perform my intuitive alg for f2l..while executing my algorithm..naghahanap na ulit ako ng corner piece..(white cross ako..so pag may nasulyapan akong corner na may puting side..binabantayan ko na kung saan pupunta..)
4.then ilalagay ko ulit ung corner sa tapat ng slot nya while looking for its edge partner
I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND AND I HOPE THIS HELPS
nd ko alam kung gagana to sa inyo..but i know it works for me..
whew ito na ata pinakamahabang post ko..

wow...thx for the advise master jome...^^...medyo problemado rin ako sa f2l eh..^^
Re: what's the secret of looking ahead?
weeeheeee..i got my new PB (17.98 s full solve) and best average (28.xxs) with a lot of help from sir jome's advice...hehehe..angganda ng execution ng f2l ko sa cubesession na to..dahil dun sa "look for the corner" tip, tuloy tuloy halos..2 look OLL pa po iyan..so..ibig sabihin..this tip really works (for me at least..)...thanks!

Galing, dami kong natututunan since pag aralan ko ung CFOP. last month lng nagtatanong pa ko kung pano ung F2L, PLL and OLL. ngayon im just trying to memorize more OLL (32 p lng alam ko) and trying to practice to get fast.
Thanks ulit sa mga idols and masters dito.

while executing an algorithm to slot a pair(edge+corner)..look for another corner..tapos yun ang isusunod mong islot..edge nalang ang hahanapin mo..ganito intindi ko sa "look for the corner" hehe..

Re: what's the secret of looking ahead?
Tama si Jolo. Hmm. Over time kasi, you can predict where edges are. Alam mo na kung ano ang nasa B face na edges just by quickly looking at the side faces. Hahanapin mo lang yung nawawala sa F at U faces, tapos mabilis na thinking, alam mo na agad kung anong nasa likod without rotating the cube.
This is key to look ahead. No matter how fast you are, the corners will always be the first to go in look ahead simply because if you go way too fast without F2L setups, the corners tend to go to the D face, which is the worst position always (assuming na wala siya sa tamang lugar niya, which is the optimal case). Kapag nasa D, that requires a little better look ahead dahil may delay between removing it and setting it up. Mamamatayan ka kaagad ng 2 seconds dun, which is pretty precious.
So, when solving, after cross, quickly do a mental math. Apat ba ang corners sa top? Kailangan mo bang mag-rotate ng cube and magnakaw ng tingin sa D face? Mga tipong ganyan yan. In a way, you ask yourself along the way. Don't worry if you're still slow. This is key to getting fast naman eh.
Personally, ngayon, I whisper, "Likod, baba, tabi..." kapag nagso-solve ako. That way, I am calm and I tend to remember better. You must create your own devices for lookahead. Pwede kang mag-hum or magsalita or whatever. Si Ken nga, maririnig mong bumubulong ng "Bam, bam, bam." Haha. Joke lang.

Re: what's the secret of looking ahead?
haha..naalala ko tuloy ung gperm tutorial vid ni sir superken..bum bum..aha..here na me..haha.. eniwey..malaki na2long sakin nung "look for the corner" kadalasan sub 18 na f2l ko ngaun..kaya kahit 3 look oll tapos 2 look pll nakakasub30 parin..haha.. tnx for the tip sir jome..

sir..sineset up nyo pa ung mga corners sa top layer such that pagexecute ng f2l alg, walang corner na mapupunta sa d layer?
