is it possible to achieve a sub-20 average...???
Is it possible to achieve a sub-20 average with a lubricated and sanded toysRus rubik's cube??
It's just that i haven't held nor played with a diy yet so i can't know if my sanded cube is smooth enough to be comparable to a diy and if it is possible for me to achieve a sub-20 average with that cube.
Are there any sub-20 cubers here who are not using the diy???

Tell Yu Nakajima, Toby Mao, they don't use DIY's yet they're sub20. I only achieved sub22 with my non-DIY cube without lubrication. So its a high probability that you can get a sub20 with that.

hehe... this afternoon during the U.P. cubers meet, i was able to play with a diy for the first time (thanks to neil). and i think i was faster by only 2 to 3 seconds on the average using the diy...
hehe, neil was really fast. he kept beating me on the speed challenge... hehe...

Re: is it possible to achieve a sub-20 average...???
Having a good, loose, smooth cube will definitely help your times, whether it's a DIY or just a regular well-lubricated cube. My time improved by 5 seconds on average simply by using a well-lubed cube.
You can only go as fast as your hands go, and as fast as your cube will allow. So even if you have a fast cube, you must be able to maximize it by going faster before the cube's full potential will be realized. Parang nag-drive ka ng sports car during rush hour in Metro Manila, sobrang useless dahil sa traffic; you'll only truly get your money's worth when you're driving while everyone else is asleep.

Re: is it possible to achieve a sub-20 average...???
It is very possible. There is a very simple way to determine the lower limit of solving time given the ff:
1. The cuber (of course)
2. The cube (any condition)
This is called a 'pre-solve'. If u really wana investigate deeply about your time and how to improve it (unlike me lolz) I suggest u give some attention to it.
Here's how it works. Generate a given scramble and solve the same scramble over and over again using your method until u get the optimal or near-optimal steps. That way u have near-perfect look-ahead and therefore near-zero delays. There u see your limit for any given cube.

sounds interesting.... ang alam ko ganun ang ginagawa ng mga ibang cubers kaya mabibilis sila... masubukan nga...

I like your idea, Benjo. I should give that a try to get my "theoretical" fast time. Thanks for the tip!
Re: is it possible to achieve a sub-20 average...???
remember toby mao and shotaro makisumi is not used to DIY cubes way back b4 i don't know now.. yet they achieved times of 12s 13s so it is really possible

tip lng din gumawa kau ng memorized scramble nyo tpos gawin nyo ng gawin that way u can test your speed.... and know if u r really improving

Re: is it possible to achieve a sub-20 average...???
shorter algorithms + fast fingers + fast recognition..gets u to sub 20
shorter algos= www.cubestation.co.uk or www.solvethecube.co.uk or www.cubefraeak.net
fast fingers=practice 200%
fast recognition=300% practice..
tpos........................
dedication= sub 20 average

Re: is it possible to achieve a sub-20 average...???
i never bothered to look at www.cubestation.co.uk until now. gee thanks. ngayon ko lang kasi nalaman na there are techniques na pwede aralin to get faster at the cross. i thought na puro intuition lang talaga yun, and experience lang ang kailangan to master the cross.
for that, aaralin ko yun. mabagal pa kasi ako sa cross.
