n00b review: Dian Sheng VS rubik's regular 3x3x3

As a n00b, I feel like trying to make my own review and point out the differences with my n00b eyes, and I need the help of you residents and veterans to comment too. Thanks.

Yesterday, I was browsing the forums looking for other people's reviews on the DIAN SHENG (DS) cube. I've read that most of those who compare the DS against the regular Rubik's 3x3x3 -- most people choose the DS lubricated or not.

So I went out to Tutuban to look for a DS (and hopefully what the others were saying as UDIY) and luckily enough I found a flower shop selling DS cubes near Tutuban Mall (the wonders of Tutuban ^_^). I bought a stickered one and a tiled one.

RUBIK'S REGULAR 3x3x3
Well, without using lube it'll take quite a while before you get it to roll smoothly. It's not as noisy as the DS when you twist it. Put in your brand of lubricant and it'll work at least thrice as good as it was without lubrication and has less tendencies to overturn or slip out of your hand. The stickers are good even after hours and hours of use and should last you about a few months before you really have to change up stickers.


DIAN SHENG (DS)
Taking into consideration that you can pop-out the center piece and adjust the cube tension, this has the big advantage over the regular rubik's with regards to price. Performance-wise, the cube should be able to adjust to your hand since you can tinker with the tension. Using the cube is just so damn noisy i dunno what kind of hard plastic they used on the cubies, but in fairness they're tough enough to take the beating. When lubricated, it becomes so slick that when i use it, it has this tendency to slip out of my hand when I go fast.

visit Tutuban's night market hanapin mo yung tindero na nagtitinda ng puzzles. sa may vicinity ng mercury drug ha hindi sa robinson side. meron syang DS, 4x4, UDIY, wood cube puzzle. he sells UDIY at 60 pesos each. 80 ang DS.

i asked him to get other UDIY colors. nabili ko sa kanya white e. yung green kasi obvious na may puwang yung isang side.

Excuse Sir mondo, what is a UDIY?

Rubik's.

There's a reason why top cubers use Rubik's and why it's that expensive. Whatever it is, I do not want to elaborate.

hmmnn..kung papapiliin ako sa ds ko o kaya sa TRU..TRU ako kahit medyo mas stiff..para sakin..ds cubes do not suit my way of cubing..masyado ata kong marahas magcube kaya nagpopop agad ang ds sakin..PERO..ang isang malaking pinagkaparehas ng DS at TRU ay ang stickers..masasabi nating mas matibay ang stickers ng TRU pero para sakin..parehas lang silang crappy at nd magtatagal..kung ako tatanungin..kung may pera ako..let's say 250 pesos..TRU na lang bibilhin ko imbis na diansheng kc syempre iba pa rin ang orig..sabi nga ni sir jome.. kung makakabili ka ng RUBIKS DIY sa toys r us..edi mas ok..may kamahalan..pero magandang investment narin kc maganda ang quality at matibay..ayun.. share lang.. para sakin : RUBIKS DIY>CUBE4YOU DIY>TRU CUBE(NON DIY)>DIANSHENG>UDIY>IBA PANG CUBES

ps..mas ok sakin diansheng kesa sa UDIY kc mas smooth at wala masyadong lock ups..ung UDIY ko na pink madalas maglock kaya di ko ginagamit 4 speedcubing..display na lang..

It's actually good that you searched the forum for related topics. Well, you should've posted this in those topics instead.

as per the UDIY, prices range from 100 - 250. You can actually get them anywhere. You just have to find. You may look at the trade center. Alot are selling UDIY, including me.

IMO, If you like collecting cubes, ok lang to have different brands. Kaya you can now share your reviews with others like the threadstarter did. Syempre iba pa rin ang main cube sa mga collections

Actually, ang TRU parang -2 rating ko sa simula niyan, pero everyday parang nadadagdagan. Habang tumatagal sobrang gumaganda. Siguro pag nearly a year mo na yang ginagamit tapos lubed na magiging pinakamagandang cube yan na meron ka. Parang pet yung TRU na lumalaki. Konting tender love and care e parang mas magiging magnda pa nga siya sa C4Y DIY, at siyempre lalo na ang mga DS/ UDIY. Rubik's DIY? Ftl.

night market as in NIGHT? damn i hope he's there on a saturday night, that's the only good night i can go that far out to Tutuban to see the old geezer.

Thanks for all the replies and comments, these all give me a better understanding of how different cubes work for different people and I wanna learn how these differences could affect my own cubing style.

Like I said, I'm the zero-n00b and I really really need the veterans' help \m/ thanks \m/

para sakin diy c4y ako.. kasi di pa ako nakakahawak ng tru cube.. tas meron akong ds and udiy, napangitan ako.. hehehe.. depende ata yan sa kinalakihan mong cube.. maganda talga ang original.. hehe

When I get the money for a Cube4You, I'm sure to buy as may types as possible, not just for collection purposes but also to see which cube fits my hand. How much is a C4Y and where can i get them? I'll go check the Trade Center for info *hehe* \m/

[mondo107] i found the best bargain ever man. from 168, i went to DV mall and found shops and shops of toys stalls, i walked around the street and found 2 bangketa stalls of pure rubiks cubes. i got DS for 60 each and UDIY for 45 each. best of all, it was just 9am \m/

from LRT Recto station, take the jeep going to divisoria, get down at tutuban mall, then you walk all the way going to 168 (ask around the guards) then go inside 168 and get out on the other side then ask again for directions going to DV mall (ask another guard again) and on the road that you will walk on, you'll find the stalls there. i know how i explained it was damned vague, im sorry i kinda forgot what the streets were this is the best "walk-around instructions" i could give you man. im going back there maybe next week to look for other colors, i'll make sure to take note of the streets

sir try mo pa ikutin ung labas nang DV mall... dun yung bagsakan.. makukuha mo po 45 pesos retail ung DS cubes... wholesale po @ 40 pesos.. kaka discover ko lang po nito last sunday.. hehhee may mga "pipitsugin" din silang stickers.. six pesos (P6.00) lang po complete set na .. thats 1 peso per side...
